Richie Naef and Phyllis Novin began their musical collaboration in 1973 with a cover band. Within one year a fire destroyed their studio but inspired a new direction. What followed was 25 yrs of original music with Richie guitar/vocals & Phyllis-vocals/keyboard. They produced complex, orchestrated art rock; intensified the sound with New Wave and Punk and eventually created a unique blend of JazzRock. They performed at CBGB, Max's Kansas City, My Fathers Place and many hot venues in NYC and the Northeast. TV and Radio airplay included WLIR, WNYU & WNEW. Late 80's saw Phyllis also working in Theater. Richie joined in on many projects and together they scored and musical directed experimental theater productions and two Off Off Broadway shows. As part of LORAGE Productions they create music for independent films. One film "Animal Crackers Pentemente" was shown at Cannes Film Festival in 2013 winning many awards since. (Phyllis also became a comic book artist for the Simpsons but that's another story!) But always the love of 30's/40's Jazz and Blues remained. In 2006 the duet "Gibraltar Jazz" was born. Richie arranges and records the songs adding drums and bass. Performing the guitar and vocals live creates the sound of a full band. "Gibraltar Jazz" has played many different venues (including multiple shows for the "Jazz On The Vine" concert series, vineyards, Clubs and restaurants (Montauk Yacht Club and The Southampton Inn), Assisted Living and Senior centers, Corporate events (North Shore LIJ Health System and National League of Nursing), Film Industry launch parties and sound track work. Richie & Phyllis cover Standards, Jazz and R&B. The music has been described as "JazzABilly"- Retro but Rockin. "Gibraltar Jazz - a duet with the sound of a sultry female jazz singer, backed by a swingin little band!"
